Commission renews select vendor contracts, approves auctioneering contract and amends drainage MOU; sludge-disposal agreement receives no action

Commissioners discussed several procurement and contract items under Item 9. A motion to renew select vendor contracts and to instruct the city manager to seek more favorable border-fare rates on one item was moved, seconded and carried after discussion.
After an executive session, the commission approved a contract with Galindo Auctions for auctioneering services. The Chair asked whether a buyer's fee would be assessed; staff said the city had not assessed a buyer's fee in the past. The auctioneering agreement was approved by voice vote.
The commission also approved a first amendment to a memorandum of understanding among the City of Mercedes, Hidalgo County Drainage District No. 1 and the Hidalgo County urban county program related to the CDBG drainage infrastructure project (south lateral). Staff said the amendment contained routine modifications; a groundbreaking for the project was scheduled for Aug. 13 at 10:00 AM.
Finally, a proposed agreement with a company referred to as CB3 for nonhazardous liquid sludge disposal drew discussion. A motion to postpone while staff sought further legal review lacked a second and therefore died; no action was taken on the CB3 item.
