The Board of Selectmen voted to designate a selectman to work with town staff on renegotiating intermunicipal agreements (IMAs) with Fall River, New Bedford and Lakeville as part of planning for waterline extensions and related grant work.
Town Administrator Debbie told the board the town's IMAs had expired in 2010 and that updates are needed because pending grants would extend water lines through town and to the school campus. "Our IMAs, expired in 2010, and we've just been carrying over the existing 1," Debbie said, explaining the need to clarify responsibilities for repairs and service between municipalities.
Board members discussed recent waterline leaks and the practical need for clearer assignment of responsibilities between towns. The board moved and approved a nomination to designate the selectman who will serve as the town's point of contact in negotiations; the selectman will report back to the board as negotiations progress and any agreements will return to the full board for approval.
