City approves engineering contract for Oakdale Trunk Sewer Improvements (not to exceed $214,000)

The Coralville City Council on June 9 approved an engineering services agreement with Veenstra & Kimm, Inc. for the Oakdale Trunk Sewer Improvements 2027 project with a not‑to‑exceed amount of $214,000.
City Engineer Scott Larson described the project as the culmination of earlier large infrastructure efforts, including the Oakdale Force Main Improvements and the West Land Use Area Central Trunk Sewer. "This project is very critical but had to be put on hold until the force main issue was taken care of," Larson said, explaining the sequencing. He told the council there are currently no planned trail closures tied to this work and gave a construction history dating to 2023 that includes utility relocations and water‑main improvements.
Larson also addressed recent stormwater concerns and explained that "the storm sewer intakes are designed to handle what’s considered a five‑year or ten‑year rain event and anything above that means the street starts filling with water," adding context about how water flows into depressions and across private yards during larger storms. The council adopted Resolution No. 2026‑96 approving the engineering agreement.
