City approves updated interagency agreements with Iowa City School District for before/after school programs

The Coralville City Council on June 9 approved an updated interagency agreement with the Iowa City Community School District to provide before‑and‑after school programming and preschool space at Borlaug, Van Allen and Wickham elementary schools.
Recreation Department Supervisor Amy Erickson said the updated 28E agreement clarifies that each partner school will provide a specific, age‑appropriate space for preschool before‑and‑after programs so young children have appropriately sized bathrooms and facilities. "It is important to have a bathroom that’s their size," Erickson said, explaining why designated space was requested.
Erickson told the council staff have budgeted for 12 preschool children with specific staffing for that age group in Fiscal Year 2027 and will expand programming only if demand increases. The council adopted Resolution No. 2026‑95 approving the agreement.
