District reports strong K–5 attendance and midyear reading gains

Alicia (district administrator, speaker 4) told the board K–2 attendance exceeds 94% and that reading-diagnostic results show growth compared with last year.
Alicia detailed student counts: 66 students moved up to grade-level reading, 47 were moved out of one grade level below, and a smaller set of students remain two or more grade levels behind — among those 17 students two grades below, 5 were on IEPs and several are recent monolingual arrivals or in ELD programs. Alicia said the district purchased more than 100 informational books to increase grade-level reading material and credited ParentSquare and staff outreach for improving attendance. "Our attendance is amazing," Alicia said during the report.
Administrators emphasized targeted RTI groups, teacher-led interventions and potential professional development for Ready Math rather than an immediate purchase of supplemental curricula. Board members and staff discussed next steps for intervention, parent engagement and measuring progress at the next reporting cycle.
