The Stanfield School Board voted to approve a resolution regarding the Hermiston Enterprise Zone after staff described how the local school-support fee functions.
Staff explained that local jurisdictions can set a school support fee between 5% and 15% that is collected and forwarded to the district, but that when the district forwards the fee to the Oregon Department of Education it does not increase the district's net state school support. As staff member (speaker 9) explained: "It's 15% that gets collected on our behalf, but we don't keep that money." The board moved and seconded the resolution and approved it on a voice vote.
Staff said the Greater Hermiston Enterprise Zone will expire this year and Hermiston is transitioning to a new local arrangement termed the Hermiston horizon; staff offered to circulate projected revenues from local data centers for board review.
