At the Jan. 26 meeting the motion to approve closed enrollment was moved and seconded and passed on a voice vote with no recorded opposition. Staff explained the policy means the district would stop accepting most new transfers once classes are full, but Stanfield residents and preschool-to-kindergarten cohorts would retain enrollment priority. As staff member (speaker 9) said: "then as Stanfield kids move in, they get to come in. We just wouldn't be accepting any new transfers."
Board members discussed how the change ties to classroom capacity and staffing; staff noted most grade levels are near capacity and that the district will continue to accept transfers during registration up until classrooms are full. The board did not alter the limited exemptions explained by staff during the discussion. The measure takes effect for the upcoming 2026–27 school year and the district will apply the cap and transfer procedures during registration.
