Superintendent: district to keep CEP free-meal level for now; lead-testing and staffing updates noted

Superintendent Krista briefed the board on staffing, the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) for meals, compliance work and the principal search.
Krista said the district’s CEP percentage was 57% for the current block, which allows free breakfast and lunch to all students and yields a higher federal reimbursement (she cited about $4.65 per free meal vs. roughly $0.64 per paid meal). She said the district will remain at the 57% rate for the next three years but warned that if the percentage falls after the four-year block the general fund could be required to supplement food service costs. "We will keep the 57 for the next 3 years," Krista said, and noted that staff are reviewing food-service efficiency and FTE to prepare for possible changes.
Krista also reported staffing updates and said the principal search will close soon with screening and interviews planned; she hopes to have a principal in place by July 10. She informed the board the district is not yet in compliance with ORS requirements for lead testing of faucets but will complete testing in the fall and post results on the district website.
Krista asked the board to consider moving regular monthly meeting dates later in the month beginning in September so the business office can provide reconciled financials for review.
