The Santiam Canyon School District 129J Board of Directors adopted the district’s fiscal year 2026–27 budget and approved related tax and fund designations at its June 10 meeting.
Superintendent Krista read the budget-resolution language and the board voted by voice to adopt resolution number 25.26.02, which "adopts the district's fiscal year 26–27 budget and makes the necessary appropriation," satisfying the state deadline to adopt a balanced budget by June 30. Chair (Speaker 5) asked for the motion, which was moved and seconded and approved by voice vote.
Business manager Nicole Cooper explained a second resolution, 25.26.03, imposing the district’s permanent operating tax rate of $4.8880 per $1,000 of assessed value and certifying a debt-service levy of $1,185,316 to fund outstanding general-obligation bond payments. The board discussed that the bond itself was previously approved by voters and that the board’s action was to set the dollar amounts to certify to the county assessor; the resolution passed by voice vote.
The board also adopted resolution 25.26.04 to classify and report fund balances under GASB 54 and authorized the superintendent and business manager to designate assigned and committed balances as described in the budget packet.
Finally, the board approved resolution 25.26.05 to transfer $700,000 from student support services (fund 22000) to the instructional category to provide appropriation authority to cover higher-than-anticipated payments to Oregon Charter Academy (ORCA). Krista said the transfer "represents a less than 10% increase to the instructional appropriation category and is authorized under Oregon local budget law," and the motion passed by voice vote.
Next steps: the district will certify the tax amounts to the county assessor and post the adopted budget documents on the district website as required by law.
