Board adopts new secondary math pathways; raises equity questions from parents

District curriculum staff presented a revised set of secondary math pathways intended to expand acceleration options while adding multiple summer bridge supports to help students transition between grade bands. Dr. Touchading introduced the team and Dr. Valentine described the new structure, which includes three bridge opportunities and a pathway designed to permit geometry in 8th grade without occupying an elective slot.

The board discussed period‑0 options and summer bridge intensity before voting.

After questions and clarifications from board members on scheduling and supports, a motion to adopt the secondary math pathways was made, seconded and approved, with board members noting that additional implementation details and communications would follow. The board asked staff to provide diagrams and further outreach explaining how bridge programs and interventions will operate for students who are below grade level.
