City schedules Forevergreen Road groundbreaking and readies Heartland Drive roundabout for early August opening

City Administrator Kelly Hayworth told the council there will be a groundbreaking for the Forevergreen Road Extension Phase One on July 29 at 3 p.m. with the City of North Liberty.
City Engineer Scott Larson reported that clearing and grubbing are underway for Forevergreen Road Phase One and that work on the Heartland Drive and Commerce Drive roundabout is mostly complete: paving and sidewalks are finished, splitter islands are complete, brick pavers and a truck apron are nearing completion, and the earliest possible opening date is Friday, August 7. Larson added that the Forevergreen Road railroad crossing repair — a cooperative project with the Iowa DOT Office of Rail using federal funds — will require a full road closure and an adjacent trail closure for approximately 1.5 to 2 weeks next week to finish before school starts in late August.
Hayworth also reported that the Iowa River Trail at the Iowa River Power Company is closed this week for removal of the Sawtooth wall related to a historic renovation; the contractor was instructed to reopen the trail by the weekend.
