Erie County Commissioners on July 1 approved the county’s 2027 tax budget, which County Administrator Hank Solowiej said was prepared assuming zero property tax collections in the General Fund. Solowiej told the board that, under that assumption, the county expects between $3 million and $4 million more in expenditures than revenues for 2027 and that the county’s 120‑day reserve will fall below the target for the year.
Commissioner Old stated the Commissioners’ approach signals they are asking the Budget Commission to suspend property tax collections in full. On motion of Commissioner Shoffner, seconded by Commissioner Old, the Board approved the 2027 tax budget and authorized Commission President Patrick Shenigo to sign the documents; Roll Call: All Aye. The transcript does not record whether the Budget Commission has yet issued any decision about suspension of collections.
