Following a closed session on personnel and security, the Spearman I.S.D. Board unanimously approved a resolution authorizing certain designated school employees to carry and store firearms on district property pursuant to Board Policy CKC(LOCAL). Member Dustin Mackie made the motion and Member Abby Pipkin seconded it; the motion carried 6-0.
The board's action also authorizes the superintendent to verify and to maintain necessary documents and training records for those designated employees, according to the minutes. The closed session that preceded the vote was taken under the Texas Open Meetings Act provisions cited in the minutes (personnel: 551.074; security: 551.076).
