South Umpqua opens two-week public review of three social-studies textbook pilots April 16–27

Director of Teaching and Learning Ryan Savage told the board that social-studies teachers are piloting three curricula: Teachers Curriculum Institute (TCI), National Geographic Learning and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH). The district will open a two-week public viewing and feedback period April 16–27, 2026, after which staff will prepare a final recommendation for the board on June 3, 2026.
Savage said purchases are planned after July 1 and the chosen curriculum would be in district buildings in fall 2027. The pilots were reviewed at Douglas ESD and staff stressed the opportunity for community input during the April review window.
