Policy committee advances first readings including electronic-use rules and updated restraint and seclusion procedures

Tony, representing the policy committee, walked the board through a package of first readings and administrative regulations. He said the electronic-communication AR addresses acceptable use, handling of personally identifiable information and complaint processes, and noted that electronic agreements for staff and board members will be updated to reflect the AR. On discipline and transportation, the policy package includes a bus code of conduct and acknowledges bus cameras; the committee emphasized coordination with the contractor (First Student) and principals for follow-up when incidents are reported.
Tony also reviewed a significant update on restraint and seclusion policies in response to 2023 changes in law: the AR codifies preservation of recordings when restraint/seclusion events occur, immediate notification requirements and mandated debriefings that must include parents within a specified timeframe. The committee previewed a cell-phone ban policy that must be adopted by Oct. 31 and implemented by January under incoming state requirements; staff noted some parent comments but said the district already largely practices an all-day ban at middle school levels.
