The South Umpqua School District Board approved a revision to the 2026–27 instructional calendar at its April 1 meeting, adding September 4, 2026 as an additional student/teacher contact day to meet the licensed 192-day requirement. The motion to approve the revised calendar was made by William Hill and seconded by Jeff Johnson; the vote was recorded as Yea: Greg Bicondoa, William Hill, Jeff Johnson, David Stevens; Absent: Randy Richardson, Anandita Tiwari.
In the same meeting the board adopted the consent agenda, approving minutes from the March 4, 2026 meeting and accepting the resignation of Susan Yates, a math teacher at South Umpqua High School. The board chair and staff said the calendar change will allow the district to remain contract-compliant; the district plans to publish the updated calendar for families prior to the fall term.
