Groton council accepts $141,791 grant for Crosstown Greenway signage

The Groton Town Council voted unanimously to accept a state community connectivity grant of $141,791 to support signage and wayfinding on the Groton Crosstown Greenway. Councilor Merritt moved the resolution and the mayor seconded; the vote was recorded by roll call as 9-0-0 and the item was referred to the Representative Town Meeting (RTM) per rule 6.5 0.32.
Councilor Jones (S5), who described the route for the public, said the greenway "is about 20 miles" and connects the Nautilus Submarine Museum through mixed street and wooded segments to Old Mystic. Council members said the project will improve trail user experience and help promote Grotons trail network. The council authorized the town manager to execute documents necessary to implement the project.
The measure funds signage only; construction or major capital work were not authorized in this vote and the item was referred to RTM for the next step.
