On May 13 the Santiam Canyon School Board approved a group of policies presented for second reading under Agenda Item 7.1. Carl Anderson moved to approve the set of policies, Mrs. Harrington seconded, and the board voted 5‑0 to adopt them. The policies included DJ (District Purchasing), EBBB (Injury or Illness Report), EFA (Local Wellness), GBEB (Communicable Diseases in Schools), the deletion of GBEBA (Staff — HIV, AIDS and HBV), and revisions to GCBD/GDBD and GCDA/GDDA regarding sick leave and fingerprinting procedures.
During discussion Mrs. Allison raised questions about accumulated sick leave and whether employees could receive payment for unused sick leave at retirement; district administrators explained paying out unused sick leave would be costly, is not current practice, and that unused sick leave is reported to PERS but is not paid out. The board confirmed the figures listed in Policy DJ and passed the package without objection.
