The Tatum Independent School District on Jan. 13 accepted three competitive National School Lunch Program (NSLP) Equipment Assistance grants and approved a $65,000 increase in Food Service Fund 240 to cover initial equipment purchases.
Child Nutrition Director Vanessa Thompson told trustees the district applied for six pieces of equipment and was awarded grants for three: a combination convection/steamer oven for Tatum High School, a steamer for Tatum Middle School, and a pass-thru reach-in cooler for Tatum Primary. "Tatum ISD will be reimbursed for the payment after the equipment has been delivered and installed by the deadline of August 31, 2025," Thompson said. The board approved increasing expenditures in Food Service Fund 240, Function 35, by $65,000; Trustee Curt Smith moved, Trustee Kip Amick seconded and the motion passed 7-0.
The grants mean the district will not permanently absorb the full cost of the equipment if invoices meet grant requirements and installation occurs before the TDA/USDA reimbursement deadline. The board recorded no additional conditions at the time of approval and noted reimbursement would follow standard grant procedures.
