Chiefs seek department increases; mayor urges $2,000 boost to West Essex First Aid Squad

Police, fire and information-technology leaders presented their 2026 budget requests at North Caldwell's Feb. 26 special meeting.
"Chief Strodthoff presented 2025 revenue increases and 2026 budget increase requests for the Police Department," the meeting minutes state. Chief Wefferling outlined Fire Department requests focused on repairs and maintenance of equipment and vehicles, and IT Director/Police Captain Credico said IT spending needs would rise about 2 percent due to vendor cost increases.
Mayor Joshua H. Raymond asked the council to increase the borough's annual donation to the West Essex First Aid Squad by $2,000. The council did not take a formal vote on the donation during the session; department representatives left the meeting at 6:24 p.m.
