Council holds first reading of LOSAP amendments for fire department
Summary
Ordinance 12-49-24 (LOSAP point-system amendments) was introduced on first reading; the changes remove a 10-point minimum for certain miscellaneous activities so active volunteers are not penalized by the structure of the point system.

Councilman Boyse introduced Ordinance 12-49-24 for first reading to amend the LOSAP (Length of Service Award Program) point system for the fire department. He said the amendment removes a prior 10-point minimum for certain miscellaneous activities to better reflect the contributions of volunteers who respond to many calls but may not meet the former minimum point categories.
"It takes away the 10 minimum for the additional training at the bottom of the ordinance," Councilman Boyse said while explaining the change. Council members asked clarifying questions about maximum point caps and codification; council members said the modification was narrow and tied to earlier amendments. The ordinance will be considered for final passage at the March meeting and the borough clerk was directed to publish notice of the hearing.
