Board adopts FY25 amended budget after presentation showing reduced deficit

The Beecher Community Unit School District 200U board voted to adopt the fiscal year 2025 amended budget following a presentation by Superintendent Dr. Gayham at the May 14 meeting. Dr. Gayham told the board the district’s proposed deficit narrowed from earlier projections due to several revenue and expenditure shifts, including federal grant rollovers and a sale of district property.
Dr. Gayham summarized major cost drivers and one-line budget figures: "We budgeted, an an $18,500,000, f y '25," he said while listing two major bus purchases, a new classroom annex, a $250,000 computer purchase approved earlier, a $40,000 small maintenance grant and higher insurance costs as reasons expenditures were higher than originally projected. The superintendent said federal IDEA and Title grant rollovers and the Millard Reesene property sale helped offset costs.
After discussion the chair moved to approve the FY25 amended budget; the motion passed on a roll call vote. The board also opened and closed a required public notice hearing on the amended budget earlier in the meeting and recorded the adoption vote before moving to other business.
