Officials flag environmental questions as Board of Commissioners to review new turf option

Commissioner William Gerken told the Environmental Commission the Board of Commissioners discussed artificial turf for Veteran’s Park and raised environmental concerns such as product lifespan and sustainability. At the recent convention the BOC spoke with a company called Pivot Performance Turf, which Gerken said offers a longer warranty (12 years) and claims the system is recyclable and avoids rubber infill.
Gerken encouraged any interested commission members to attend the Board of Commissioners caucus on March 5, when Pivot Performance Turf will present. He also suggested a site visit to a field that has installed the product. The commission reiterated its interest in environmentally preferable options but no formal municipal decision was recorded at the EC meeting.
