Public Works reports buried valves, continued repairs and intermittent shutoffs

Public Works Jack Burton reported at the Sept. 16 meeting that crews have been locating and exposing buried valves as part of a multi-week effort. He said they rented a vacuum trailer to uncover valves; of 192 valves, roughly 15% remain non-operational and eight still need to be dug up. Burton described multiple shutoffs to attempt repairs and said, "Rough price to stop is $5,000 and we will need at least two." Council members thanked crews for late-night work to limit disruptions.
Burton said in one case a valve box still had water after the surface seal could not be restored, prompting additional shutoffs and more extensive digging. Staff will continue repairs and report back when the system is fully operational.
