Residents question newly enforced parking ban near Sunrise Park; deputy chief points to existing ordinance

Residents pressed Pitman Borough Council on November 12 about recently enforced parking restrictions near Sunrise Park, saying the changes were implemented without notice and will reduce available parking for nearby homes.
"These changes were made without any notification to surrounding residents and will have a negative impact on many of the homes in this area, especially with the upcoming holidays," said resident David Hamilton during the public-comment portion of the work session. Hamilton asked why the change was made and why residents were not given an opportunity to provide input.
Deputy Chief Zander said the parking restriction is already contained in the borough's ordinance but had not been actively enforced until recently. "Parking is prohibited in this area under current ordinance, however, it had not been enforced before," Zander told the council. Council members discussed whether to pursue ordinance amendments that would preserve safety and clear sight lines while reducing the impact on parking availability.
Council did not take a formal vote on changing the ordinance during the meeting; members asked staff to explore options and report back. The exchange occurred during the public-comment block of the November 12 work session.
