Pool utility balanced; council weighs more seniors programming and $10 out-of-town fee

Recreation Director Bill Maranz outlined potential cost savings in the Pool Utility budget and asked for targeted increases in operating funds for seasonal events and seniors programming.
Maranz said in-house pool cover removal and more efficient chemical testing should reduce operating costs; prior-year surplus funded a new pool vacuum and new restroom fixtures. CFO Rich Mondelli told the council that “the Pool Utility budget is balanced.”
Council members discussed boosting funding for Memorial Day and July 4th celebrations and considered increasing the out-of-town seniors member fee to $10 per meeting per person. At least one resident, Doreen Custode, asked whether the borough should increase general taxes instead of raising the water consumption rate and whether a nonprofit entity could be established to support seniors programming.
No final appropriation or ordinance for seniors programming increases or fee changes was adopted at the March 10 meeting; council members signaled interest in refining options and returning with formal proposals.
