Palatine to formalize antenna sharing with Buffalo Grove for automated meter reading

The Infrastructure Committee reviewed an intergovernmental agreement with the Village of Buffalo Grove to formalize notification procedures and mutual reliance for an automated meter-reading antenna that serves both communities. Staff said the meter-exchange program is more than 50% complete and explained that parts of Palatine can be served by the Buffalo Grove antenna and vice versa in event of equipment downtime.
"During the study ... it was identified that parts of Palatine could be better served by the antenna in Buffalo Grove and that parts of Buffalo Grove could be served by the Palatine antenna should there be any infrastructure down in Buffalo Grove," staff said. The recommended IGA would provide notification requirements so that if either community needs to take an antenna down for service there is communication to the other community. The committee voted to place the IGA on the consent agenda; the consent agenda was later approved by the council.
