After consultant update, Clayton Council denies Ash Street paper-street vacation

Council heard an update on a proposed paper-street vacation for Ash Street from Jim Biegen of Sickels & Associates and moved to deny the request at this time.
Biegen told the council there are six separate owners affected by the proposed vacation and that vacating the paper street could landlock lots 16 and 17. He said vacating the street would require surveying work and that "the cost would fall on the Borough." After discussion, Councilmember Vondran moved and Councilmember Long seconded a motion to deny the vacation; the motion passed with all councilmembers recorded in favor.
The denial means the borough will not proceed with the formal street vacation process at this time. Any future petition to vacate the paper street would require additional surveying and resolution of ownership issues before council consideration.
