The village council approved a proclamation declaring Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2016, as Palatine Firefighters' Day of Remembrance to honor volunteer firefighters John Wilson, Richard Freeman and Warren Algren, who were killed while battling a 1973 fire at a Ben Franklin store on Brockway Street. The proclamation calls for flags at village facilities to be flown at half-staff and announces a 9:00 a.m. ceremony at the Firefighters Memorial; the public was invited to attend.
The proclamation was introduced by the chair as part of the evening's agenda and will be placed on the village calendar for Feb. 23.
