Commissioners discussed a set of revenue-capture options intended to increase local spending by park users: weatherproof bulletin boards or kiosks at amenities, sponsorship recognition such as banner placement, an annual fundraising event, and a simple promotional poster listing local food and drink options under a working name like "Blue Lake Eats."
One commissioner recounted bringing menus to a recent horse event and said it resulted in orders, arguing that a visible kiosk at the Horse Arena would help visitors find local businesses. "And all it took was all it's gonna take is for us to put up some sort of poster or sign that says, when these places are open and what you can get there, Blue Lake Eats, Blue Lake drinks," the commissioner said. Staff warned the city may be limited in what it can post to avoid favoritism and suggested the Chamber of Commerce or community groups could host an impartial listing. Commissioners asked staff to keep the revenue-capture discussion on future agendas and to coordinate with the city manager and Chamber as appropriate.
The commission also discussed sponsorship revenue (e.g., banners at Perrigo Park or inside the rink) and noted the city has equipment such as an inflatable movie screen that could support events. No formal sponsorship policy or timeline was established during the meeting; commissioners asked staff to return with options.
