Councilman Penta told the West Long Branch council on Feb. 4, 2026, that the road improvements committee has identified nine roads for inclusion in an upcoming repaving program. He also urged residents to avoid parking for up to 48 hours after storms to allow the Department of Public Works to complete cleanup.
Penta raised a related enforcement and equity issue: he argued that businesses that plow their parking lots should also be responsible for clearing the sidewalks in front of their properties. The Borough Attorney responded that the topic is sensitive and recommended the Finance and Administration Committee continue discussion to identify legal, enforcement and equity implications before drafting ordinance language.
No ordinance change was adopted at the meeting; council members agreed to refer the proposals back to committee for additional study, including potential impacts on residents, enforcement burden and notice requirements.
