Moderator told trustees the district is working through a budget process that requires approximately $2,000,000 in general-fund reductions for next year and outlined multiple ways to reach that target while trying to protect classroom teachers.
"We're working on reducing expenditures by approximately $2,000,000 for next year," the Moderator said, emphasizing the district will look at custodial and copying costs, administrative consolidations and using attrition to limit classroom impacts. The Moderator said grants such as Title I and 31a will be considered where allowable to fund certain roles but cautioned that grant money is not a stable substitute for general-fund positions if a grant disappears.
Board members pressed for specifics about which positions would be affected and asked for updated staff-count documentation. Cindy (staff member) explained that some secretarial and dean positions would be reduced (example: consolidation of a 12-month and 10-month secretary and a reduction of three dean roles) and that enrichment leader roles at the elementary level will no longer be funded from the general fund; schools may choose to fund them via Title I if the school plan allows.
Cindy confirmed staff notified roughly 25 employees during the meeting that their current titles would not exist next year and discussed plans to post vacancies and encourage affected staff to apply for open positions that match their credentials. The board requested an updated breakdown by school and position to verify class-size and staffing commitments made during prior redesign conversations.
