CTE instructors update board on new storage barn; slab pour set for next day

Tom, a CTE presenter, told the board the storage barn framing is finished and the project was moving into a major milestone: the concrete slab pour.
"It's close to 70 yards. It's close to about 7 concrete trucks that'll be coming in and out," Tom said, noting finishing and curing would take additional days before students and staff can use the interior. He said the structure contains four overhead doors, an 8-by-8 conditioned room for electrical and technology, and will remain mostly unconditioned otherwise; metal siding and some finishes are scheduled for next year.
Marrero (presenter) said proceeds from the district's construction program and donations from community partners funded the build, and that prior equipment grants paid for machinery used by students. He emphasized the building will be shared across multiple CTE pathways, including welding and auto instruction, increasing the program's capacity and flexibility.
District staff said the new barn has passed inspections to date and that overhead doors and electrical work are on order; security cameras will be installed but the building will not include a sprinkler system. The board did not take formal action on the item and was invited to visit the site during the program's open house June 6.
