Administration asked trustees to accept a $469,000 bid from Speaker General Contractors of Northwood, Ohio, for kitchen updates at Raisinville Elementary, Custer 2 Elementary and Arborwood North Elementary, to be funded from the food service fund. Missus Shook summarized scope items: replacement of interior coolers and freezers with larger coolers, moving refrigeration closer to kitchens, installing an exterior freezer and adding a new door at Arborwood North.
Trustees asked for scope and funding clarifications. Missus Shook said the district has used excess food-service funds to improve meal quality and that ESSA-related excess funds were re-invested into the program before using fund balance for projects. A motion to accept the bid "not to exceed $469,000" was made and passed by roll call 7-0. During public comment contractor Andy Carver identified himself as owner of Adrian Mechanical Services and said mechanical refrigeration work constituted a substantial portion of the project cost and offered references.
