Monroe Schools say they will consider sale of 3-acre LaPleasant parcel to Habitat for Humanity

Superintendent Shaw informed the board that the district is considering a sale of approximately three acres next to its facility on LaPleasant Road to Habitat for Humanity. "What we're looking at doing is this piece of property right here... it's 3 acres," Shaw said, and added that Habitat proposed building eight houses, each with an attached apartment, subject to city approvals.
Shaw said administration consulted district counsel and plans to craft a purchase agreement to bring to the board at its May meeting for formal consideration; he emphasized the sale would still require approvals from city authorities and that the district is sharing the information now as an informational item. Chair also placed the proposal in the context of the city's La Pleasance Road corridor improvements, which include intersection changes and walk/bike infrastructure that would connect the homes to nearby services.
