Board hears options as aging stadium lights near end of life

Staff (S1) told the board that lights at Navarre field are about ten years old and will need attention. "Navarre field annually cost us approximately 50 to $60,000," Staff member (S1) said while outlining maintenance and utility costs for the field and asked the board whether the district should replace bulbs or require SMCC (a frequent user) to pay for replacements.
Board members debated short-term repairs versus longer-term strategy for a property the district does not regularly use at night. S1 said options include renting a lift and replacing bulbs, negotiating with users to share costs, or letting lights go dark if users assume responsibility. Staff agreed to further discuss options with SMCC and report back.
