Van Alstyne ISD board approves Teacher Incentive Allotment plan focused on math and reading

The Van Alstyne Independent School District Board of Trustees approved a Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) plan presented March 23 that aims to recruit and retain high-performing math and reading teachers. Ted Beal presented the plan and spending schedule; Trustee Debbie Nance moved to approve the plan and the motion passed 7–0.
Beal described the structure of the awards and how the funds will be used. "TIA aims to attract and retain high quality teachers," the presentation summary said. Under the approved plan, eligible teachers may receive awards at $5,000 or $18,000 levels, with 90% of the allotment distributed directly to teachers and 10% used for program development and administration. The board recorded unanimous support: B Schoener–yes, M Freeman–yes, B Williams–yes, R Morgan–yes, D Kerr–yes, M Morris–yes, D Nance–yes.
The Board did not debate a detailed eligibility list in open session; the motion approved the plan and associated spending plan as presented by the superintendent's recommendation. Staff indicated the program will prioritize math and reading instructors with demonstrated potential under TEA guidelines.
