Council hears timetable, design and funding for truck‑route Phase 2; construction could start next summer

Assistant City Engineer Jordan Lepke presented engineering updates for the multi‑phase truck‑route project and the downtown library inspection results. He said Phase 1 (Greenwood) completed in 2024 and the design for the South Railroad phase (Phase 2) is complete. "Phase 2 is estimated at $625,000," Lepke told the council and said the city will finalize construction documents this fall, request construction funding in the spring, and could advertise the work next spring with construction expected to begin the following summer.
Lepke also reported a recent county inspection of the library and listed a mix of staff‑level repairs and contractor remedies that must be completed and resubmitted for county approval before final acceptance. Council members asked about additional public outreach and viewing plan sheets; staff said there is no additional public‑outreach budget planned for Phase 2 but the plan sheets can be made available and council may direct adjustments prior to bid advertisement.
