Burbank promotes staff, prepares for new police and fire personnel after storm response

Ald. Barb Gagle moved promotions of Engineers Dave Fikac and Eric Abraham to the rank of Lieutenant; the motion carried 7-0. Separately, Ald. Gagle moved promotions of Firefighter/Paramedics Matt Trebunia and Justin Rehnquist to Engineer; those promotions were sworn in by Dennis O’Dowd, Chairman of the Police and Fire Commission, and the council recorded a 7-0 vote.
Police Chief Garcia reported six recruits are graduating from the academy on June 26; Chief Garcia reported they will be sworn in at a later date. Fire Chief Kreil said three Public Works mechanics are training in Minnesota to maintain the new fire apparatus and reported his department responded to 150 calls for service during the recent storms, with about 120 calls arriving within the first two hours.
Mayor David Gilgenberg acknowledged Public Works and other departments for their work on storm cleanup; Public Works Director Darji said crews are going block by block to remove branches and debris and thanked interagency partners for providing resources.
