Commission approves rezoning plan for 1144 E. Plant St.; second reading set for Feb. 27

The City Commission on Feb. 13 approved first reading of Ordinance 25-07 to rezone approximately 0.25 +/- acres at 1144 E. Plant Street from C-2 (Arterial Commercial District) to a Character Area Planned Unit Development (CAPUD). Planning Director Kelly Carson described the applicant’s proposed buildings, site improvements and landscaping and said the plans were consistent with the city comprehensive plan, the Code of Ordinances and overlay standards.
Mayor John Rees opened the public hearing and, hearing and seeing no public comments, closed it. Commissioner Chloe Johnson moved to approve Ordinance 25-07 and schedule second reading and public hearing for Feb. 27, 2025; Commissioner Iliana R. Jones seconded and the motion carried unanimously, 5-0. Staff recommended approval and provided the site and design details during the first-reading presentation.
