Robin Hataway, WOCCISD chief financial officer, told the board during a Jan. 13 public hearing that the district "passed with a Superior Achievement rating of 96 for 2023-24 school year" under the state’s School Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST). Hataway framed FIRST as a tool "to encourage Texas public schools to better manage their financial resources" and invited questions; none were offered by members of the public.
The hearing was informational and did not require board action. The FIRST score is intended to reflect the district’s financial-management practices and allocation of resources toward instruction. Hataway outlined that the system focuses on financial statements, tax collections, and financial controls (information presented to the board for review).
