Wellington ISD reports enrollment of 531 and previews spring assessments and events

Superintendent Kurt Ashmore told the board on Feb. 10 that district enrollment stood at 531 students and provided a brief legislative update. He also reported a staffing hire: Vicki Decker has hired Layla Williams as a library aide.
Principal Deidre Kane reported elementary enrollment at 239 students and summarized recent academic activities: middle-of-year TPRI testing for PreK–2, GT testing administered by Mrs. Teague, three-week progress reports issued Jan. 27, and MOY TTAP and interim STAAR schedule items for 3rd grade and other grades. The minutes also record celebration of National School Counselor Week (Feb. 3–7), an elementary UIL awards assembly on Feb. 4, and upcoming Valentine’s events and the start of the 5th six weeks on Feb. 18.
Junior-high and high-school items were presented for their respective campuses: staff reported All-Region Band participation, Holocaust Remembrance Week, assessment schedules (RLA interim, Biology and U.S. History interim assessments), and programs such as Texas College Bridge and a CPR class for Health Science students. The District One Act Play competition is scheduled for March 5 in Wellington. Several interim assessment and testing dates through early March were listed in the minutes.
The superintendent and principals did not propose new district-wide policy changes at the meeting; their reports were informational.
