Plan Commission forwards proposed Jelly Belly Lane and Park Drive name changes to Village Board

Staff described two initiated street-name changes: Jelly Belly Lane (10100 Jelly Belly Lane) proposed to become Surpee Way to honor Michael Serpe, and Park Drive in Prairie Springs Park proposed to become Steinbrink Senior Terrace (three park addresses listed); commission voted to forward both items to a Village Board public hearing on May 12, 2025.
Staff reviewed two previously initiated actions asking the Board to consider renaming streets to honor long-serving local leaders. On Jelly Belly Lane (the site of the former Jelly Belly Candy Company at 10100 Jelly Belly Lane), staff said the board previously initiated a change to rename the street in honor of Michael Serpe and to change the building address from 10100 Jelly Belly Lane to 10100 Surpee Way; if approved by the board the change would become effective August 1, 2025. Staff said tenants were notified and that no objections had been received up to the planning commission meeting.
Staff also said the Board previously initiated changing Park Drive within Prairie Springs Park to "Steinbrink Senior Terrace" to honor John Steinbrink senior, and listed affected addresses (10023 Park Drive, 9999 Park Drive, 9453 Park Drive) that would change to Steinbrink Senior Terrace variants; staff recommended the Plan Commission forward a favorable recommendation to the Village Board and the commission voted to do so. Commissioners asked whether the word "Senior" should be included; staff confirmed the board initiated the naming as presented and the Board hearing (05/12/2025) will allow affected property owners to comment.
