Waco ISD reports 2021 bond program substantially complete; roughly $200M spent locally and program under adjusted budget

Gloria Barrera presented the final report on the district's 2021 bond program, telling trustees that all projects are substantially complete and highlighting community engagement, safety and operational improvements across multiple campuses. Barrera said the Waco High School project reached substantial completion and that the district continues to work through warranty and punch-list items.

Barrera reported that about $200,000,000 of bond work was spent in the Waco community and said the program emphasized local contractor participation, student engagement and safety; she told trustees the program judged itself weekly and tracked cost-control metrics. Barrera said the final accounting showed the program approximately $7.3 million under the board's adjusted spending authority so far; she cautioned the figure is approximate because investment earnings and final accounting work remain in process.

Board members praised the facilities and construction teams, noted cost-savings achieved on certain projects, and asked for continuing updates on warranty items and remaining change orders. The board acknowledged dedication events and community ceremonies scheduled for Waco High and other campuses.
