Dr. Kornblum presented results of an internal vote on two proposed instructional calendars covering 2026-27 and 2027-28, saying the district solicited staff and community input and recommended the option that includes a fall break. "For 2627, calendar 1 got 534 votes, but calendar 2 received 588 votes," Kornblum said, and he reported calendar 2 also prevailed in the 2027-28 vote.
Board members discussed parent concerns about sporadic Fridays or Mondays off and the divergent start times for elementary and middle schools. Kornblum clarified that start and stop times fall under a separate transportation and operations committee, not the instructional calendar process, but said staff will examine options for aligning start times in future planning cycles.
The recommended calendar also preserves an allowance of 4,590 extra minutes for both 2026-27 and 2027-28 should the district need to make up instructional time because of inclement weather. Trustees moved, seconded and approved the calendar recommendation by voice vote following discussion of family impacts and transportation implications.
