The Okaloosa County Board of County Commissioners adopted a proclamation recognizing the 46th anniversary of the Center for Independent Living of Northwest Florida, acknowledging the center’s role in promoting accessibility and independence for people with disabilities.
Brett Robinson of the center thanked commissioners for the recognition and said the law’s promise must be maintained through local action. “The ADA didn’t just change the law, it changed a promise,” Robinson said, adding the center remains available to assist residents and partner with the county. The board approved the proclamation by unanimous voice vote.
The proclamation cites the center’s history dating to July 1, 1980, and connects the anniversary to the 36th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The center provided a contact number for residents seeking services and emphasized continuing collaboration with county agencies to improve ramps, parking and other accessibility features.
