State ag official warns Zillah about Japanese beetle threat

Camilo Acosta of the Washington State Department of Agriculture told Zillah City Council members that the Japanese beetle poses a significant threat to crops and urban landscapes and described state and local efforts to prevent its spread. Council members listened as Acosta outlined the roles of state agencies and local communities in surveillance, public outreach, and eradication planning.
The presentation included reference material and a PowerPoint provided by the Department of Agriculture. Council did not take action during the Study Session but reviewed the information and will retain it as part of the city’s planning for pest response and interagency coordination.
