Commission grants retroactive redactions for family contributors across 11 campaigns

The Washington State Public Disclosure Commission on Dec. 4 granted a retroactive request to redact addresses for a set of family contributors after staff said the family demonstrated safety concerns and had joined the state address confidentiality program. Commission staff member Tabitha told the commission the request covers four family members who contributed to 11 campaigns between 2021 and 2024 and that staff obtained authorizations from all affected campaigns.

Tabitha cited safety concerns and the family's enrollment in the address confidentiality program as the basis for the retroactive modification, and she referenced statutory and rule provisions that permit exempting such information. “The disclosure of such information would present a personal risk to a reasonable person,” Tabitha said. Chair Jay Leach said he had reviewed the written materials and found the showing adequate under the cited authorities and granted the request, making the affected records exempt from public disclosure.
