Bensenville board initiates South Industrial SSA process for roughly $9.4M infrastructure plan

Staff introduced a proposed South Industrial Special Service Area (SSA) to address failing infrastructure in the industrial district and to pair a village contribution with a DCEO grant. The community development director said the infrastructure there "has reached the end of its useful life" and that the proposed project is approximately $9,400,000 with the village proposing to fund half and property owners in the SSA funding the remainder through an additional property tax.
Public Works staff noted a DCEO grant of $3,000,000 has a 2026 sunset and that paperwork needs to proceed quickly to close the grant. The board voted to move forward with the SSA initiation and will return in January with further ordinances and public hearings as the process continues.
