The board approved an intergovernmental agreement with DuPage County to design and move forward on an 8-foot multi-use bike path along the west side of Irving/York Road, linking Gateway to planned tollway ramps and regional bike networks. Staff said the county will pay roughly 62.5% of the design, construction and engineering costs, leaving an estimated 37.5% share for the village; staff estimated the village's portion at about $334,219.
Public Works staff said the path is likely to be built after the tollway ramps are completed, with construction expected in 2027 or later. The village will assume long-term maintenance responsibility for the path and could seek state/federal grants (ITEP) and TIF funds for later gaps and the final, more complex segments.
